Quasar pairs with arcminute angular separations
We use the Véron-Cetty & Véron (2000) catalog (VV) of 13 213 quasars to investigate their possible physical grouping over angular scales 10′′ ≤ ∆θ ≤ 1000′′. We first estimate the number of quasar pairs that would be expected in VV assuming a random distribution for the quasar positions and taking into account observational selection effects affecting heterogeneous catalogs. We find in VV a stat...
متن کاملPolarization angular spectra of Galactic synchrotron emission on arcminute scales
We study the angular power spectra of the polarized component of the Galactic synchrotron emission in the 28–deg Test Region of the Southern Galactic Plane Survey at 1.4 GHz. These data were obtained by the Australia Telescope Compact Array and allow us to investigate angular power spectra down to arcminute scales. We find that, at this frequency, the polarization spectra for E– and B–modes see...
متن کاملTwo Close–Separation Quasar–Quasar Pairs in the Large Bright Quasar Survey
We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of two close quasar– quasar pairs found in the Large Bright Quasar Survey (LBQS) (Hewett et al. 1995, AJ, 109, 1498). The two components of the 2153-2056 pair (z = 1.845, ∆θ = 7. 8, B = 17.9 and 21.3) have the same redshifts within the relatively large uncertainty, ∆vA−B = −1100±1500 km s, of the observations. The quasars are most likely spa...
متن کاملQuantized separations of phase-locked soliton pairs in fiber lasers.
We report the discovery of a quantization of the separation between phase-locked soliton pairs that is related to the radiation waves known as Kelly sidebands, in a passively mode-locked fiber ring laser. Our numerical simulations that predict this phenomenon have been confirmed by our experimental results.
متن کاملThe Arcminute Microkelvin Imager
The Arcminute Microkelvin Imager is a dual array interferometer designed specifically to survey for galaxy clusters through detecting their Sunyaev-Zel’dovich signatures on the microwave background. Construction of the Small Array is now complete and commissioning observations have mapped several clusters. The Large Array is required to remove the effects of confusing radio sources and will all...
